timing chips.  Total marathon finishers = 149, half marathon finishers = 292, 10k finishers = 151 and 5k finishers = 124.  The course is tough - elevation
ranges from 7420 to 8150.  Total ascent according to motionbased.com was 6,393 feet.  There are 2 extended climbs, the steepest is from about 2.5 miles on Fish
Creek to about 5.5 miles... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Incidentals first! No water or electrolyte drink at the beginning. Six aid stations had more than enough fluids for the masses. About as flat a course as you
can have. So with normal temperatures would probably be a good event to PR at.

Website says course is county roads that go thru Vineyards. Neglected to add that one of those roads goes thru diary farms and that is a possible dealbreaker

Lou and I had decided reasonably late that if one of us went down to Melbourne the other would - Lou wanted 100 miles in 24 - I realised 24hrs would be stupid
with my lack of continuity in preparation and decided to move to the 12 hour but the organisers had filled the first 12 hours on track so I got the second 12
hours from 10pm onward.

Nice clear weather 50 degrees at the 7am start appoaching 70 by the time I finished.

			<title><![CDATA[ Big D Texas Half Marathon ]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ <p>The Big D Texas Half Marathon is held the first Sunday in April every year.  The event includes a marathon and 5k as well.  Results show 1663 half marathon
finishers, 501 marathon finishers, and 494 5k finishers so a total of almost 2700 participants.

The race starts and finishes on the Texas State Fair Grounds in Fair Park.  The marathon and half start together and split off at about mile 4, when the course
reaches White Rock Lake.  The full marathon continues around the lake... ]]></description>

Ohio.  Athens is home to Ohio University, the area is beautiful.  This was the 41st full and 18th half.  Not a lot of walkers, but the race to me was very
walker friendly. Everyone starts together, most walkers stayed to the side or positioned themselves in the back.  The course starts in town on campus and makes

			<description><![CDATA[ <p>University of Houston at Clear Lake in Webster, Texas is 80 miles from my house. So, in order for me to be at race packet pickup by 5:30 am, I had to get up
at 3:30 am. <em>I left the house at 4:00 am. </em> Remember, I am NOT a morning person. Anyway, the traffic was minimal, so my friend and I made good time
getting to the race site. We ate breakfast along the way… I always like to eat two hours before race start. Then drink plenty of water and have a cup of good

we had to also stop and check-in  at the walking table after getting our bib number. There they gave us another bib number for our backs and made sure  we

decided to stay in the host hotel.  We splurged.  The expo was on the small side.  I didn&#39;t really spend much time looking around.  I had hoped that
someone would be selling racing flats that I hadn&#39;t tried on yet.  No such luck.  We worked in the Prevention booth for a few hours then got off our feet

warmed up gradually. Probably got a bit warm for the full marathoners but I was done before then.

I improved my time from last year at this event, from 2:54 last year to 2:43 this year. I walked most of it but did run for 1 to 2 min. each mile. It would

			<description><![CDATA[ DH and I went over to Tallahassee the day before the event so I could go to the park to look at the course since I knew we would arrive for the race before
sunrise. Had a great time looking around and took the boat ride on the river. Lots of gators out there sunning themselves. It is a beautiful state park if you
ever get the chance treat yourself to a trip there.

Well this is my first marathon. The start was really crazy, it took me 35 minutes to cross the starting line. I was not helped by the tropical downpours we
were experiencing. Thanks for the tip about a trashbag raincoat folks..

The first half of the race was cool, with the occasional rain torrent. I guess no amount of training  would have gotten me ready for walking in wet shoes and
